 Qayamat or Ma’ad:

Judgement Day or Resurrection in Islam

Ma'ad or Qayamat means the Last Day of the Final Judgment. It is one of the articles of Islam to believe in the Day of Judgment when all human beings shall be raised from the dead and all their good and bad deeds shall be ultimately judged and recompensed accordingly. There will be a Day when Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala) annihilates everything. The Glorious Qur'an says,"Who when, misfortune befalleth them, say, to Allah we belong and to Him is our return." 2:156

On that Day when mankind will be resurrected and presented before Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala), the Lord of the Worlds, The Glorious Qur'an says in Sura Fatehah (1),“ He is the Master of the Day of Judgment. He is the One Who will judge them by their deeds, according to His will. People will face a great calamity on that Day. No one will be safe from that Day but the ones who have prepared themselves by their good deeds, performed with good intentions. Every human being is individually accountable for his or her own deeds and Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala) is the Best of the judges. The Glorious Qur'an says,"And for all (are ranks assigned) according to what they did; that Allah may (fully) recompense their deeds, and they shall not be done any injustice. 46:19

All divinely revealed religions, unless corrupted, recoginze that every human being will be destroyed by death and will go from this world to another world, and in that world he/she will receive the due reward for his/her deeds, good or bad. Nabiy Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Waalihi Wasalam) said,"You have been created for eternity; you are merely being moved from one home to another."

The precise timing of the end of the world is known only to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala), and a comprehensive understanding of the ultimate resurrection is beyond the human grasp. Nabiy Isa (Alayhi AlSalam) said,"But about that day and hour no one knows.” The Glorious Qur'an says,"They ask thee about the hour (of Resurrection) when will be its fixed time; Say: The knowledge of it is only with my Lord. None shall manifest it at its time but He; heavy shall it be in the heavens and the earth; it will not come to you but of a sudden. They ask thee as if thou wert solicitous about it. Say: its knowledge is with Allah, but most people know not." 7:187

However, as Nabiy Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Waalihi Wasalam) related, there are some signs which indicate that the Hour is approaching, drawing nearer. Some of these signs are: Regular praying of Salat will be discontinued; carnal passions will be enjoyed unabatedly; sincere believers will have no control over the lawlessness prevailing among the people; evil will be praised as good, and good will be condemned as evil; the unreliable will be considered dependable and the reliable will be regarded untrustworthy; the liars will be accepted as the truthful and the truthful will be rejected as the liars; teenagers will preach religion from the pulpit; fun and frivolity will be a popular pastime among the people; spending in the way of Allah will be avoided by the rich as an unjust punishment; children will not obey their parents; comets will frequently appear; droughts will devastate the world now and again; those who are in need of help will be looked down as burden on the society; the devil will conquer the hearts of the people, even though they may appear as human beings; men will dress like women, and women will attire themselves in men's clothes; people will pose as friends but harbour ill-will and hostility in their hearts; Muslim men will wear silk and gold; usury and bribe will become a mode of daily life; musical instruments and games of chance will be the main source of enjoyment; irreligiousness will be a sign of distinction; the rich will go to pilgrimage as a picnic or a pleasure trip, the middle class will use it for making money, and the poor to pose as pious; the Qur’an will be studied to show off, not to seek the truth; there will be a large number of bastards among the people; women will abandon hijab (veil) and freely indulge in immorality; unseasonable rainfalls will be in abundance; adultery will become fashionable, the barefoot, naked, destitute herdsmen will complete in constructing lofty buildings, and so on. The Glorious Qur'an says,“What wait they then for aught save the Hour (of Reckoning) that it cometh on them all of a sudden? Indeed have (already) come the signs of it; and of what avail can be the reminder comes to them when it hath already comes on them?!"  47:18

The will of Allah? takes effect as soon as it is willed and there is nothing which we do, nothing which takes place, that is not known to Him. Nothing is outside His account, and reckoning and judgment are in His exclusive jurisdiction. It is reported,“Hasten to do [good] deeds before tribulations arrive like pieces of the darkened night, wherein a man will awaken a believer but be an unbeliever by night, or will be a believer by night and awaken an unbeliever, [and in which] people will sell their religion for some (paltry) worldly provisions. A time will come upon people wherein the one steadfast to his religion will be like one holding a burning coal. Allah? will not retract this knowledge by a withdrawal, [suddenly] withdrawing it from people's hearts, but He will retract knowledge by retracting the scholars, until, when He has left no scholar, people will take ignorant leaders, who will be asked, and will pronounce verdicts without knowledge, thus going astray and leading others astray." The Glorious Qur'an says,"Allah alone is the Knower of the Unseen, and nor doth he reveal his secrets unto any (one else), save unto the Rasul whom He has chosen, for verily He causeth a guard to march before him and after him. That He may know that indeed they have delivered the messages of their Lord, and He encompasseth (by His knowledge) all that is with them, and taketh account of everything." 72:26-28

It is reported that Nabiy Isa (Alayhi AlSalam) will appear before the world ends, and according to Nabiy Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Waalihi Wasalam), Mahdi. Both of them will bring victory to the truth against the spread of evil. They will come to bring order, justice and harmony in the human society by introducing Islamic law in letter and spirit. After expires the Mahdi the world will come to an end. All will die and then they will be brought to life again to face the day of judgement. The Glorious Qur'an says,"Every soul shall taste of death; Then unto Us (only) ye shall (all) be returned." 29: 57

People will be then driven to their final place (Heaven or Hell) on that Day, and  a New world will follow. The Glorious Qur'an says,"Therefore Allah rewarded them for what they said, with gardens beneath which river flow, (for them) to abide therein; And this (is) the recompense of the righteous ones. And (as for) those who disbelieve and belie our signs, these shall be the inmates of flaming (Hell) fire." 5:85-86

In the Day of judgment, disbelievers will condemn and curse themselves for not believing. The Glorious Qur'an says,"And the true promise shall draw nigh, then lo! the eyes of those who disbelieved will share with amazement ; (and they shall say): Woe unto us! indeed we were in heedlessness as to this; nay, we were unjust  one." 21:97

It is reported that there are fifty names for the Day of Judgment. It is mentioned one hundred fifteen times in the Glorious Qur'an. The Glorious Qur'an says,"Allah! there is no god but He! He will certainly gather you together on the Day of Resurrection; there is no doubt in it; who can be more True in Word than Allah." 4:87 "And whomsoever Allah guideth, then he is guided aright; and whomsoever He leaveth to stray, thou shalt never find for him any guardian other than Him; and We will gather them together on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind dumb and deaf. Their abode shall be Hell. So oft as it abateth, We shall increase for them the blaze." 17:97 "And thou shalt see them brought unto it humbled of disgrace, looking with a stealthy glance. And shall say those who believe: "Verily the losers are those who lost their inner selves and their people on the Day of Reckoning." Beware! verily the unjust shall be in a lasting chastisement." 42:45 "It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces towards the East and the West. Righteousness is, rather, one who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Book, the apostles, and giveth his wealth out of the love for Him to the kindred and the orphans and the poor and the wayfarer and the needy and for those in bondage; and established prayer and payeth the poor-rate; and those who fulfil their promise when they make a promise and the patient ones in distress and affliction and in the time of war. These are they who are the Truthful and these are they who are the pious." 2:177 "And when ye have divorced (your) women and they have completed their (prescribed) term (of waiting) prevent them not from marrying their husbands when they agree among themselves in fairness; with this is admonished whosoever among you believeth in Allah and (in) the Last Day (of Judgment); this (way) is more profitable and purer for you; and verily, Allah knoweth and ye know not." 2:232 "Only he shall maintain the Mosques of Allah who believeth in Allah and the Last Day (of Requital) and establisheth prayer and giveth away the poor-rate and feareth not (anyone) but Allah; so these, it may be that they are of the rightly guided ones." 9:18 "And who turneth away from creed of Ibrahim but (one) who debaseth himself. And indeed We have chosen him in this world; and verily in the Hereafter he is of the righteous ones." 2:130 "Let those then fight in the way of Allah, who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And him who fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or (be he) victorious, We shall grant him a great recompense." 4:74 "That abode in the Hereafter, We assign it for those who intend not to exult themselves in the earth, nor (to make) mischief (therein); and the end is (best) for the pious ones. 28:83 "And the nothing life of this world but a vain sport and play; and verily the abode of the Hereafter, is certainly the life: if they but know." 29:64 "And We created not the heavens and the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth; and verily the Hour (of Reckoning) is certainly to come, so (O' Apostle Muhammad!) forgive (the people) with gracious forgiveness. 15:85 "Verily the Hour (of Doom) is sure to come but I keep it hidden, so that every soul may be recompensed as he striveth." 20:15 "O' ye People! Fear ye your Lord! Verily, the quake of the Hour (of Doom) is a thing" 22:1 "O' people! if ye be in doubt about (your) Rising Again (Resurrection), then (reflect ye that) verily We created you from dust, then from sperm, them from a clot, then from a lump of flesh, formed and (sometimes) partly unformed, that we may manifest (our power) unto you, and We cause to stay in the womb what We will until an appointed term, then We bring ye forth as babes, then (foster you) that ye reach your maturity; and of you is he who is caused to die, and of you is he who is brought back to the feeblest (state of) old age that he knoweth not aught after knowing (much), and ye behold the earth dried, dead, but when We send down on it water, it is stired (to life) and swelleth up and produceth every kind of attractive herbage (in pairs)." 22:5  "And those who have been given knowledge and faith will say: "Indeed tarried ye according to the decree of Allah till the Day of Resurrection, so this is the Day of Resurrection but ye were wont not to know." 30:56 "The Day when they hear the cry in truth; that is the Day of coming forth (from the graves)." 50:42 "On that Day they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening unto a signpost." 70:43 "And of His signs is that the heavens and earth stand firm by His command; then (after your death) when He summoneth you with a (single) summons from out of the earth,  lo! ye forth." 30:25 "By the sun and its radiation! By the moon when she followeth after it! By the Day that unfoldeth its light!" 101:1-3 "Belied Thamood and 'Ad the striking calamity."" 69:8 "This is the Day of Judgment which ye used to belie." 37:21 "This is the Day of decision, We will gather you and (all) those of yore." 77:38 "Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed, the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and ye shall come forth in (hugh) groups." 78:17 "Verily the Lord Himself will decide between them on the Day of Judgment concerning that which they disputed." 32:25 "And verily the wicked shall be in the flaming fire. They shall be committed to it on the Day of Judgment. Nor they shall themselves be absent from it. And what will make thee know what the Day of Judgment shall be? Then what will make thee know what the Day of Judgment is? (It is) the Day on which each soul shall own not anything (helpful) for another soul; and the Command Supreme that Day shall be Allah's (alone)." 82:14-19 "What! think they not that they shall be raised, for a Mighty Day, a Day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? Nay! the record of the wicked hast been preserved in the 'Sijjin,' And what will make thee know what 'Sijjin' is? It is a Book Written. Woe on that Day unto the liars, those who belie the Day of Judgment, and a liar is not (anyone) save a transgressor, a sinner." 83:5-12 "And they shall say: "Oh! woe unto us! This is the Day of Reckoning." 37:20 "But when cometh the deafening Trumpet Blast." 80:33 "When cometh the Great Calamity; the Day when man shall recollect (all) that he strove for, and Hell shall be displayed unto him who seeth." 79:34-36 "Nay! the Hour (of Reckoning) is their promised time, and the Hour shall be most grievous and bitter." 54:46 "And warn them of the intense regret, when the matter shall have been decreed while they are (now) in negligence and they believe not." 19:39 "Then verily ye will wrangle one with another on the Day of Judgment before your Lord." 39:31 "Lest a soul should say: "Oh! Alas, Woe unto me! for what I failed (in my duty) unto Allah, and certainly was I of those who mocked," or, it should say: Had Allah guided me, I would certainly have been of the pious ones," or, it should say when it seeth the chastisement: "Had there been only a return for me, I would be of the righteous (ones)" Nay! indeed did come unto thee (guidance), then, thou didst act proudly and thou wert of the disbleievers. And on the Day of Resurrection thou shalt see those who have uttered lies against Allah-their faces shall be blackened; is there not in Hell an abode for the proud? And Allah shall deliver those who guard (themselves) against evil, with their success: evil shall touch them not, nor shall they grieve." 39:56-61 "And those who followed shall say, "O' were there for us a return (to the world) then we would renounce them even as they have renounced us;" Thus will Allah show them their deeds (which shall be the cause of) intense regret for them; and they shall not get out of the (Hell) fire." 2:167 "Hath not come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming Event?" 88:1 "On the Day when chastisement shall cover them from above them, and from beneath their feet; and He shall say; "Taste ye what ye were doing." 29:55 "For them shall be the bed of the (Hell) fire and from above them the covering (of it); thus do We recompense the unjust." 7:41 "Enter it ye in peace, this is the Day of eternal life!" 50:34 "But they who disbelieve and belie Our signs, they are those who shall be the fellows of the (Hell) Fire: they shall abide therein." 2:39 "Draweth nigh the (Hour of Reckoning which is) ever drawing nigh; none there is for it other than Allah to lay it bare." 53:57-58 "And thus have We revealed unto thee (O' Our Apostle Muhammad!) an Arabic Qur'an, that thou mayest warm the Mother City (Mecca) and those around it, and (that) thou warn of the Day of Gathering together (the Resurrection), wherein (there) is no doubt; (when) a party shall be in the garden (of Paradise) and a party (shall be) in the burning (Hell) fire." 42:7 "Verily, in this there is a sign for him who feareth the Chastisement of the Hereafter; This is a Day for which mankind shall be gathered together, and this Day shall be witnessed (by all). And We delay it not but to an appointed term. The Day (when) it arriveth, no soul shall speak but by His leave; then (some) blessed." 11:103-105 "The Reality! What is the Reality? And what did thou comprehend what the Reality is? 69:1-3 "Then verily after that ye shall die, then verily on the Day of Judgment ye shall be raised." 23:15-16 "And O' my people! I fear for you the Day of Calling out (each other). The Day on which ye shall be turned back ( from the Judgment unto the Hell), (when) for you there shall not be any saviour from (the wrath of) Allah; and whomsoever Allah alloweth to stray, for him shall not be any guide." 40:32-33 "The Day that He will gather you for the Day of gathering, that is the Day of mutual loss; and whosoever believeth in Allah and doeth good, He will wipe out from him his sins and admit him into gardens beneath which flow rivers, to abide therein for ever; that is a great achievement." 69:9 "On that Day shall come out people (from their graves) in (scattered) groups, to be shown their own deeds. Then he who hath done an atom-weight of good shall see it. And he who hath done an atom-weight of evil shall see it." 99:6-8 "(Remember) the Day when every soul shall come, pleading for itself and every soul shall be recompensed fully for what (all) it hath done, and they will not be dealt with unjustly." 16:111 "For him shall be doubled, the torment on the Resurrection, and for ever shall they abide in it, in ignominy." 25:69

Thus the coming of the final Hour is not known. But all Anbiya and their true believers have communicated this point, so we should prepare ourselves for such a sure and certain future by strengthening our faith. The termination of creation is upon Him and everything shall return to Him. Nabiy Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Waalihi Wasalam) said,"Treat this world as a land to cultivate harvest for the hereafter." May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala) Forgive The True Believers Their Sins And Reward Them For The Best of Their Deeds, And Have Mercy On Them, Ameen.

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala) mentioned in Sura Al-i-Imran (3:15),“Allah’s pleasure.”  Al-Hijr (15:47),“Brothers on dignified couches, face to face.” and Az-Zukhruf (43:67), “Save the pious one.” Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala) informs His creatures about the life of the hereafter, in which is a continuation of the life of the world. He brings those who become close in this life, close again in the hereafter. He will give the doers of good spiritual bliss for their sincere effort toward serving Him, a due recompense for their patience. Their hearts filled with love, they will not have any hatred in their hearts, since they love their Lord, and accordingly, they love mankind. O Lord,  give us  pietyin  ourheart and  soul,  and ascend is  toward perfection in the hereafter, Ameen.
